Chairmans Newsletter Oct 2011

4 October 2011

Another season is upon us and we look forward to the new season with anticipation. I do not intend using this news letter to detail last year. Suffice to say we did have some successes and some problems. The committee is aware of both the good and bad and have taken decisive action which will hopefully resolve the problems. Here’s hoping.

The club is in the main successful but for this to continue it does require the input from and the help of the members.

We welcome to the committee Punchy Caddock (Secretary) Kevin Monk (Social) and Collette Cottrell (Ladies Club Captain) these are important posts and I am pleased to say the early indications show that both old and new members of the committee are working hard towards making the new season a huge success.

The important new developments are.

  • Jonathan Lambert is willing to sponsor the club for another year but we have to prove that we can give his business better value for money. We can do this, and when successful we can look forward to a further 3 years of a caring sponsor who wishes to be involved with local sport.
  • We have a new Web site which has been set up by Simon Hardingham and will be managed by Paul King the Club Communications Coordinator.
  • The declining number of juniors and the loss of the Ladies 4th X1 has prompted us to set up a Junior Committee. It will be chaired by me with Mark Dudley as Head Coach; Christine Anderson, Administration; Paul King and Becky Younger, Recruitment. Sally Stephens and Kirsty Sloane have advised on Tournaments. Our ambition is to take hockey into the local schools and encourage youngsters of all ages to join the Club. The recruitment drive will be successful and we will need the help of as many qualified coaches as possible. Mark will be chasing you, so please give him a bit of your time.
  • In November the club is hosting an EH Level 1 Course at Great Cornard Upper School. The course will give our members a chance to get qualified without hours of travelling. Robin Mitchell the clubs volunteer coordinator will be the point of contact.
  • The opening of the Clubs indoor “Swarm” initiative is provisionally booked for 2nd October. The detail is being formulated.
  • Kevin Monk has already run a highly successful stand at The Party in the Park, 40 people expressed interest in playing hockey, one of whom not only played hockey but also is an experienced coach.
  • Kevin has set up a sub- committee and has already formulated a very exciting plan for the season, the news of which will be posted on the web site and in the club house.
  • We have been given a lock up container which has been placed near to the pitch. The unit will replace the wooden shed at the pavilion and will be used to store the coaching equipment. Steve Biggadike has taken on the job of Club Maintenance Officer and is fronting the refurbishment work on the container. Thanks to Ernest Doe for supplying the paint.
  • Mark Dudley has taken on the job of Ladies coach and with Collette the Ladies Club Captain we look forward to an exciting year for the Ladies section.

All the above initiatives have been put into place to improve your club but without your help and involvement they will not be successful.

The lock up is now finished well done Biggy a credit to the club.

Sunday morning junior numbers are up putting pressure on coaches. Please, please give a bit of your time to irregularly stand in as a coach or assistant. This is all part of the BIG SOCIETY. Dave would be proud of you.
