Dutch Hockey Team To Visit Sudbury

3 February 2012

We have been approached by Dutch hockey club Sint-Oedenrode asking us to host a visit from their U14 boys team. There will be 14 boys and 2 minders on the trip which will be May 17th to 20th inclusive. Sint have also invited our older mixed members to join them later in the year to celebrate their 50 years of Sint Hockey. We have said yes to the junior visit and we now need to set up a sub-committee to organize. We must do this well and we will need a lot of help to get it done. Are there any club members out there who might want to help.

Chairmans Newsletter Feb 2012

3 February 2012

Happy 2012 to all club members. I hope your Christmas was both happy and peaceful.
I am sure it is not necessary for me to go over the first part of the season as it is now history and we should learn from both our successes and failures. We appear to have learned from both as the results since Christmas have been very encouraging.
I try not to name names in newsletters as there are so many club members who work hard to keep the club going. In this case I hope I won’t offend you if I particularly mention Lissa Dunne who has helped greatly by standing in as the Ladies 3rd X1 Captain also Robin Mitchell who has Captained the very young men’s 4th X1 in what can only be described as a difficult season. Thanks to Robin the moral of the side has remained high despite the results THEY WON LAST WEEK. Finally I would like to thank Kevin Monk for his work as the club’s social secretary. So far the events have been a great success and it looks as though the Dinner dance will be a great event. Please help make this a success by attending.
2012 brings the welcome news that Jonathan Lambert has agreed to renew his major sponsorship with the club until the end of the 2013/14 season. As part of the agreement the club is currently involved in a programme renewing the club/sponsor signs at both Cornard and Friars Street. We have also redesigned the club shirts with the JL logo prominent on the front.
Jonathan is so pleased with the new design that he has decided to buy the club a new shirt for all our senior playing members and an order for 103 shirts has been placed with CSS Rugby of Sudbury the official club outfitters. The shirts should be with us within 6 weeks and will be delivered in team lots.
The shirts will remain the property of the Club and will be on “permanent loan” to individual members who will hand them back when they either leave the club or stop playing.
The new shirts have also given us the opportunity to regularize the playing numbers as the system was chaotic.
The new numbers for both men and ladies will start at 2 and run in ascending order. We have tried to keep individual members bespoke numbers and in general have been successful with the lower numbers. There are however a few of the higher numbers which we have not been able to continue.
Those club members who have already bought a new club shirt will be given (not leant) a new shirt in return for their “old new shirt” This will remove any rogue numbers which may still exist. The returned shirts will be used by the club as spares.
We have also suggested that members could donate their old shirts to charity and over 30 of you have agreed to do this.
The only commitment that Jonathan expects from you is that you wear the new shirt for all games where it is permitted.
The listing of all club members has also given us a chance to get a definitive list of members accompanied by their Email addresses. If you didn’t fill in a shirt form can you let Tim Blackburn know your Email address.
A further “advantage” of the list is that we have identified a disappointing number of members who have not yet paid a subscription. This isn’t fair on those members who pay their Subs early in the season and makes the Treasures life hell. If you are one of those who hasn’t paid, discuss your circumstances with Tim and get an agreement as to how you pay.
The major problem with the past is the lack of players commitment and getting teams together has also been a nightmare for both Club and team Captains. The selection policy is now written and in place but it is of little use if club members can’t be bothered to play.
The club needs you don’t let it or yourselves down by picking and choosing games.
Lastly the web site has now grown into something the club can be proud of thanks to Paul King and Simon Hardingham for the work they have done.
