Newmarket Ladies 3rd X1 0 - 8 Sudbury Ladies 4th X1

An early start for the young Sudbury side saw the team eager to continue their run of successful results. Sudbury looked strong from the start, making no mistakes in moving the ball around and pushing Newmarket back into their own half, with good runs from Celia Fitch-Holland and Catherine Nay. Early into the game Alice King opened the scoring from a confident short corner strike. As Sudbury continued to move the ball around the field it wasn’t long until Sudbury were awarded a penalty flick which captain Maria Risley successfully converted, giving Sudbury a 2-0 lead. The rest of the half saw Sudbury pile the pressure on the Newmarket defence and goals were scored by Alice King, Lily Chiang and Molly May leaving Sudbury 6-0 up at half time.

The second half saw Newmarket pick up the pace as they began to attack the Sudbury defence of Jaclyn Taylor, Lily Chiang, Olivia Hurley and Kate Hurley who worked hard to move the ball out of danger. Combined with the excellent goal keeping from the ever dependable Peggy Bridges Sudbury managed to maintain a clean sheet.

Sudbury took advice to move the ball out wide which created chances for wingers Ellie Bailey and Hannah Joy to push the ball forward and set Alice King up for two more goals by full time.

Hannah Joy was awarded player of the match for her outstanding effort and amazing improvement as a player.

This result now moves Sudbury up to sixth place in their league.
