Sudbury Ladies 2nd Team Match Report Mar 27th 2010 Carlton Par Ladies 5 - 1 Sudbury Ladies 2nd X1 This rearranged game, following poor weather earlier in the season meant some regulars were missing but it was a good opportunity for some new faces to get their chance in the side. Carlton Park made an immediate impact and scored after just 90 seconds with the ball trickling over the line as keeper Herrington and her defensive line were outdone by a deflection. It would have been very easy for Sudbury to drop their heads but to their credit they battled for the rest of the first half, defending and tackling well in open play and a dozen short corners. Anna Cooper and Mishka Mayers both having a good half but the star was definitely Amy Herrington in the Sudbury goal who saved from every angle. Sudbury did break and Lucy Kevis and Sarah Tavener looked dangerous when working with the youth and enthusiasm of Florrie Barber on the front line. Carlton Park clearly frustrated at being denied came out all guns blazing second half and scored within a minute of the restart, their tally mounted to 5 through the second half as they deployed their best striker to fire multiple efforts on goal. But Sudbury gained a consolation goal following a quick hit from the defence by Sarah Wordley found Barber who slipped to Lucy Kevis who showed great skill to beat a defender and the keeper and fire into the corner of the goal. It was nice consolation following a long season! Credit to all who turned out for this final fixture for their attitude and determination and never giving in. |
