Sudbury Ladies 1st Team Match Report 12th Dec 2009 Sudbury Ladies 1st X1 2 - 0 Broxbourne Ladies 1st X1 Sudbury Ladies 1sts finished a very successful first half of the season with another 3 points. A potentially tough game against Broxbourne, who had sent Sudbury out of the EH Trophy earlier in the season, started at a fast pace. Sudbury’s defence had to be alert early on as Broxbourne attacked immediately from the whistle. Eventually Sudbury settled and began to put together some better passages of passing play with some lovely runs being made by Tracy Caddock, Chloe Mills, Emma Stephens and Ellie Colton. But, as has happened so many times this season, the team were unable to convert all the pressure and possession. Several short corners were won but none were taken advantage of. In fact Sudbury needed player of the match, keeper Sandra Mackay, to make some outstanding saves, including a one on one at this point to keep the score 0-0. Sudbury began the second half determined not to make the same mistakes as previous weeks. They wanted to make sure they made all their possession count, some excellent defensive play from Becky Golding, Hayley Spooner, Katie Clark and Emma Stephens broke down the Broxbourne attacks and distributed the ball down the pitch, the ever impressive Kirsty Sloan commanded the centre of midfield and provided many balls to start Sudbury’s final attack into the opposition’s 25. After various chances going astray Sudbury finally made all their hard work count. A run down the right by Ellie Colton saw her beat a player and strike the ball across the face of goal, Mandy Coleman was there to redirect the ball past the falling Broxbourne keeper. Despite more Broxbourne attacks, Sudbury furthered their lead when some calm play in the D from Ami Humphreys saw Coleman with a chance to score her second. This gave Sudbury a much needed 3 points to continue to put the pressure on Sevenoaks at the top of the table going into the Christmas break. The team would like to thank all our supporters and wish them a Happy Christmas! |
