Sudbury started the game positively and in high sprits however it was Grasshoppers who took an early lead with a strong strike from the top of the ‘D’. Sudbury didn’t let this affect their performance and worked well as a team to put pressure on the opposition’s goal. Sudbury goal keeper Peggy Bridges worked tirelessly too keep any attacks at bay and linked well with the defence of Janice Howlett, Emma Barker, Sally Stephens and Harriet North.
Sudburywent into the second half 1-0 down however they started strongly and worked well as a team launching attack after attack on the opposition. Sudbury got the goal they deserved when Liz Spencer’s short corner shot was stopped on the line resulting in a penalty flick which Spencer converted confidently. The equalizer boosted Sudburywho continued to play well. The midfield of Alice Park and Becky Spencer put in many strong tackles to feed the ball to the forward line of Melissa Dunne, Maria Risley and Olivia Howlett, who linked well with the ball to create opportunities resulting in Spencer scoring her second goal from open play.
Sudbury continued to play strongly and confidently as a team until the final whistle and achieved a well deserved win. Emma Barker was voted player of the match for her display of all round skill and confidence during the game.
